A Letter From Our Board President

As the 2020 AgFest Online Show and Sale comes to an end, we would like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone involved who made the event possible.  We thank the volunteers who donated countless hours planning, organizing, and making sure the event would take place.  We thank the sponsors, donors, and buyers whose financial gifts contributed to the success of this event.  We thank parents, leaders, and advisors for providing leadership to the young people of San Joaquin County as they navigated a new set of challenges associated with the event.  And we thank the young people whose great leap of faith landed them in the 2020 AgFest Online Show and Sale.

We knew as a show that was offered early in the summer show season, that there would be many unknowns we would encounter as we forged ahead with plans to make the show and sale possible.  At the same time, we believed wholeheartedly that we wanted to provide as much of a full AgFest experience as possible, including still exhibits, ag mechanics, small animals, breeding animals, horticulture, and floriculture, in addition market animals and showmanship activities.  Yet, no one could predict what challenges would be thrown in our path, and we did the best we could to try to plan for issues, but then also mitigate them to the best of our ability as they came up.  Hindsight is twenty-twenty, and we see where there could have been improvements.  At the same time, we acknowledge that there were issues simply beyond our control, mostly because technology itself can be unpredictable at times.  We know that this process and activity has not been perfect, but at least we tried, we gave it our best, and we did it all for the kids.

With that said, we would like to acknowledge that the gilt show results that were first posted have been amended to reflect the judges intent.  It was brought to our attention that the reasons posted did not totally coincide with the placings that were listed.  After further clarification from the judges, we will be posting those corrections.  Those previously listed will be given a consolation gift from AgFest.  Although not in error, but as an addition, breeding ewes and does have now been placed to the tenth animal, and reasons provided by the judges.  Those, too, will also be posted.

The 2020 AgFest Online Show and Sale will be one for the books!  As we look to the future, we surely hope that 2021 will find us all together, playing card games in the aisles sitting in our AgFest chairs, sharing hoses and soap in the wash racks, and wiping our eyes clear as we hear the gavel issue the final bid after a long, hot, week.  Once again, thank you and we look forward to 2021!

Sincerest regards,

Josh Hiatt, San Joaquin AgFest
